Okay listen, I know Ariana Grande’s new album came out like two weeks ago, but it’s so good that I haven’t been able to bring myself to write about it until now. I needed a second to soak it all in and process everything. I mean, what the heck am I supposed to say about it? It’s perfect! But after much contemplation, I’ve decided to talk about how perfect it is.
Ariana has endlessly done it again. She keeps randomly dropping album after album, and honestly, I’m not sure if I can take it anymore. From Sweetener to thank u, next, and now POSITIONS? I am lucky to be living at the same time that she is, looking at the same moon and stars as her every night. I really think that Positions changed the game with Ariana’s music.
You can tell in both the lyrics and the music itself that it’s supposed to highlight a change in both Ariana’s life and mindset. The past few years have been really hard for her. Her ex, Mac Miller, passed away, she got engaged to Pete Davidson, the engagement ended, and then she started her journey to healing and finding herself. None of that is easy, especially in such a short time period. With Positions, I felt like you could tell that her period of healing is over, and she has truly found herself and found a person that she will be with forever. At least I hope she’ll be with Dalton Gomez forever because it sounds like she’s found an amazing guy, from what we know. Miss Grande deserves to be happy.
Personally, my favorite songs are motive (feat. Doja Cat), just like magic, and pov. My honorable mentions are safety net (feat. Ty Dolla $ign), off the table (with The Weeknd), and obvious. All the collab songs on this album are so amazing, and I didn’t expect them to be. I’m not usually a collab fan, but all three of them are some of my favorites, as you can see above.
There is a wide variety of songs on this album. It’s an anthem of love, passion, self-discovery, and most of all, healing. This album has been on repeat for weeks, and I don’t see an end to that. For now, my car will have to deal with my obnoxious singing to Positions as I drive to work and school. Thank you, next!
